Next New

When I think of how we can use technology to help each other, I never run out of ideas. My mind is always flooded with concepts and ways of how to use new media in an innovative way. I personally get rid of my old clothes on a regular basis so do many people that I know. Going with the saying "person's trash is another's treasure", I think we should collectively come up with a new type of media platform to help those in need and reduce waste.

In Europe,  recently there is a new media platform that started gaining popularity amongst millennials and generation Z those who are conscious about the environment and social responsibility. The new platform is a space where restaurants post their leftover meals for discounted prices as opposed to throwing it in the trash, thus reducing waste. Moreso what gets sold is sold and whatever food is left is collected by an organization and is given to poor and homeless people. When my cousin came to visit me from Switzerland and told me about that platform, I was ecstatic to hear such a thing existed.

I would love to create a new type of media platform for collaboration and connecting organizations together. If the same concept of food platforms were to be applied to clothes and other items, nobody would be left in need. I would like to start my new philanthropic platform utilizing social media and connecting and bringing individuals and organizations together. The idea will not only reduce waste but it will also better the living conditions of many individuals and put a smile on many faces.

If non-profit organizations were to be connected with individuals via that platform, a great number of kids can receive products that they need and they couldn't afford neither could the organization.  For example, an affluent soccer club for rich kids can reach a nonprofit soccer club for underserved kids and contribute into making the organization a better place for the kids and help provide the kids with presents (eg. new soccer cleats) and even offer environmental education that they wouldn't normally receive.

  1. Hi Mohamed,
This is a great idea. I too have been really cautious of my waste and carbon foot print recently. This would be fairly difficult to implement though as most people in need of food and clothes don't have the luxury of having devices with social media. We would have to entirely rely on word of mouth when it comes to spreading awareness to them.

  2. Hey Mohamed,
I really respect the amount of drive you have towards doing good for those who are in need. I like the idea that affluent soccer clubs can give cleats to kids in need. This type of new media platform could really help bridge the gap that we have in today's world. While we are all connected through the internet, we are still very much distant and this kind of activity would help bridge that gap
